The Act of punching and kicking the air
Shadow boxing is the act of punching / kicking into the air, usually without an opponent, as exercise. The name comes from the practice of standing close to a wall and pretending to punch the shadow you project onto it. Most professional boxers start their training by learning to quickly and effectively punch the air from all angles, before being given gloves. However, you do not have to be a boxer, or even be interested in the sport of boxing, in order to use shadow boxing techniques to relieve stress, exercise and have fun. Punching the air for a number of minutes requires almost no equipment and is an excellent aerobic workout, which is great for your heart, lungs and muscles. Follow the Technique in the video shown above
1. Turn to your side and bend slightly through the knees stabilizing your supporting leg.
2. Transfer the body weight forward over the knee keeping everything nice and firm. The hands are in fists, nice and close to the face. The legs are strong and engaged with the body Leaning forward, but not rolling through the shoulders. Be sure to brace through the core
3. With the supporting leg and the body weight coming forward, bring the back foot out and up onto the toe and see if you can focus on your balance lifting the toe off the ground. Small lifts to begin with, so that you can find your balance.
4. Now it is time to kick back. From the toe tap on the ground lift the leg up and back, this motion is through the buttox and not through the side of the leg.... Lift up and kick back.
